Eat exactly what you would normally eat, in moderation, and with the same budget-mindedness as if you were picking up the tab yourself. First off, confidence is the sexiest thing you can possibly project. Second, why present a completely false image and set both of you up for disappointment when he discovers the "real" you farther down the road? Being comfortable and honest with him (and yourself) about who you are is always the best way to go.

These answers leave a lot to be desired. You should eat exactly as you would at home with only your immediate family present. Don't skip onions or garlic because you might get that "kiss". Nothing is worse to a guy than a girl that pretends to be what she is not. If you are not comfortable enough to ge yourself with a guy, you should put off dating till you grow up. If you are vegeterian or vegan or have a very limited list of things you will eat, tell the guy before the date and be aware that the first date will probably be the last date as guys don't like "picky" eaters.

Depends on which restaurant, you should usually order whatever the restaurant is famous for:- i.e. pasta dishes at Valentino's or Angelini Osteria, assorted fishes at Providence or Water Grill, Steak at Morton's or Nick'n Steff's, pastry type stuff and game at Josie's, Bass from Matsuhisa etc. etc. Do NOT order the most expensive dish and wine, guys generally do NOT enjoy paying $120 for beluga/osetra caviar and $3000+ bottle of Chateau Margaux/Chateau La Tour.

What is proper these days? Why are people so concerned about "proper" eating and how they look when they go out. Honestly, if you are going out to a nice restaurant, hopefully, its because you enjoy food and the restaurant itself has something special, out of the ordinary that you wouldn't normally eat. I enjoy eating and trying new things that normally, I wouldn't be able to make at home. I enjoy food not because I am hungry and have to eat, but because food is special and an experience. Food should be appreciated for its taste and quality, especially if you are going somewhere special. I am not concerned about how I look if I enjoy the food. Hopefully, you can enjoy the food with someone who equally appreciates food as well.

Pig out before the date, and order an entree salad with a glass of white wine.

Just order something dont order extras like dessert and side saladsand appetizers
Most meals come with evrything in a nice restraunt, like a dinner salad anyway.
You could always say to your date, What do you think you are going to order? So you get an idea.

Order what you want, just don't wolf it all down in three seconds. It's usually considered more "feminine" to leave a little food on your plate. Another good rule of thumb is to not order anything more expensive than the person paying.

When I was in the dating scene (I don't miss it one bit, loved being married), I used to order anything that was easy to eat and not make a mess, ribs were out of the question ha ha.

Don't be so pretentious, order what looks good to you. What you eat doesn't make you a pig. it's how you eat it. Stay off your hands and knees, don't burp outloud, don't pick your teeth at the table, use a fork, knife and spoon, don't talk with your mouth full and if you have to fart, get up and go the ladies room.

A small side salad with light ranch and no croutons. And a water with lemon.

Your date will thank you for it, too. Means he (I'm assuming "he") doesn't have to take out a loan...

You can always stop off at Taco Bell on the way home after your date if your stomach is growling.
