IT is a common knowledgr that the british used to treat the the people of its former colonies inhumanly...there were several massacres, thousands of innocent people including women and children were killed .example is THE JALLIAN WALA BAGH ,AMRITSAR MASSACRE OF INDIA WHERE GENRAL DYER(A OFFICER OF THE BRITISH IN INDIA) IN 1919 FIRED AT THOUSANDS OF UNARMED CIVILIANS GATHERED FOR A PEACEFUL PROTEST...THOUSANDS WERE KILLED MANY OF THEM WERE WOMEN AND CHILDREN.....
THERE WERE SEVERAL SUCH MASSACRES IN INDIAB DURING THE BRITISH RULE IN INDIA.....
SO HAS THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND OR THE BRITISH MONARCHY APOLOGISED EVER FOR THESE CRIMES THAT WERE CREATED UNDER THE BRITISH MONARCHY???

MANY OF YOU HAVE SUGGESTED..FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!.....
FORGETTING YOUR ROOTS,YOUR CULTURE,FORGETTING WHAT YOUR FOREFATHERS DID TO BRING FREEDOM TO YOUR COUNTRY!!!!!!
IF WE DID'NT LEARN HOW DIFFICULT WE GOT OUR INDEPENDENCE,OUR FREEDOM..WE WOULD NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW PRECIOUS THE FREEDOM IS.....ASK THE PALESTINIANS..THEY WOULD TELL YOU..
YOU GET THE IMPORTANCE OF A THING ONLY WHEN YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT WAS TO GET IT...
AN APOLOGY WOULD'NT MAKE A BIG CHANGE ON GROUND...BUT ITS ABOUT A NATION'S AND ITS PEOPLE RESPECT....IT WOULD BE A REWARD FOR THE FAMILIES OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS WHO LOST THEIR LOVED ONES FOR THE COUNTRY..
WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET WHERE WE COME FROM...THATS OUR IDENTITY

A fair question, especially in light of many recent articles regarding the brutal treatment of Native Americans, the slavery of Blacks and the desire to have some kind of apology to recognise these groups. Elizabeth I almost succeeded in wiping out the entire Irish Race (fortunately underestimating the power of it's industry and desire to live).

Oh give it a break. You people who whine and snivel about stuff that happened in the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries kill me. Times were different then. Ideals were different and so were politics. India wouldn't have advanced as far as it has today if it weren't for the British being there all those years ago. That's a fact. I live in the US and we wouldn't have existed and set out on our own if the British hadn't established their rule here in the 1700's. We broke the yoke of colonialism. Took you guys alittle longer though. Still...who established rail there. Governing bodies? A standing army and trained Indian soldiers. Things were changing during Gandhi's time and societies across the world all agreed the British should give India it's independence.
Yeah sure...plenty of you died of neglect and overwork building railroads and such but sorry sport. That's the way it goes. You were weak...they were not. That was the law of the land then. So you should thank your lucky stars times have become much more politically correct and you've become more civilized.
What's to apologize for now? What would that serve? You knuckleheads ran through the streets and it was muslim versus hindus chopping one another up and random, wholesale slaughter. I don't see anyone making apologies over that.
Get on with your life. It's 2006 already and no...there's no money for reparations to be had.

They have never displayed this high degree of civility by publicly apologising for the most cruel acts perpetrated on the innocent citizens which was also condemned by the members in the British Parliament. It was Pt. Nehru's pro-British attitude for which we embraced the membership of the British Common Wealth and retained the British Governor General even after Independence.

Now you sound like a Muslim! They carry a grudge for 500 years or longer. Who cares? My grandmother was a Irish immigrant who suffer terrible and came across on a ship were half died on the trip. But she got here and made a good life for herself.
Her kids are glad to be here. So who cares?
Nobody did it to me! So forget about it! We got enough trouble without going back. We live in Oklahoma land of the seven tribes. They were taken over by Europeans. Now they are politicians, school teachers and business men in the community.
One Indian man told me when I remarked about the trail of tears.
Didn't happen to me and we got enough current problems.
As they say in New York: "Forget about it!"
He was a great teacher and very much looked up to as a brilliant man. One man would have been by his heritage a chief.
Became a lawyer and Professor at a presdigious college.
he said, it made us strive harder than the rest.
Look at the black man in America, came over as a slave he has a ligimate complaint. Yet, few do, they rise above it and are some of the most notable leaders of our time. Martin Luther King.

Why do people always look on the bad side of things? England is one of the finest democracies (constituational monarchies), in the world, and liberated all of it's colonies, the last one being Hong Kong in 1997. Get over it...

No, and why should she? None of it happened in her reign. She should not be forced to accept responsibility for events that happened before she was born, any more than George Bush should apologize for slavery in America. We need to stop living in the past and stop pointing fingers at ghosts. Jesus is coming and we need to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord by escorting as many people as we can to the throne of grace today. Jesus loves you.

No, Prince Philip did call the Prime Minister of Zambezi a "spear-chucker", but I guess that's not exactly the same thing.
