It all depends on what you want to do with it.

More memory (RAM) is very important if you plan on having many programs running at the same time, or are going to be doing some very intensive computing work like 3D Computer Aided Design. Each newer version of Windows tends to be a real memory hog, so I'd say in no case go with less than 512 megabytes of RAM, and I'd normally say 1 gigabyte.

Same thing with hard drives. The more programs and files you plan on storing, the bigger the hard drive you need. Some files require a ton of storage space, others next to nothing. For instance, I have been digitizing my old VHS tapes for transfer to DVD. A three hour football game might take up 1 entire gigabyte of hard drive space. Digital photos I am taking with my camera and downloading to my computer are each over 1 megabyte in size (1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte). For a brand new desktop computer, 100 gigabytes is a fairly standard "small" size hard drive now. I bought my sister in law a 250 gigabyte hard drive last year for around $80 (after rebates), so the price for moving up from a smaller drive to one that holds much more data shouldn't be too much. Every year, the drives store more and cost less.

It depends how many slots you have on your computer most computers have 2 slots you can add 1 GB in each total of 2GB
about the hard drive it depends how much data you want to install on it and remember the smaller the hard drive the faster.
I hope this answer your question .

More than you think you need. Newer programs require more of both. 120 GB HD would be the minimum I would go with. Start putting pictures videos etc, eats it up pretty quick. Memory, as much as you can afford.

256 in memory and 120 gigs in hard drive is the cheapest and easiest way to go without having to upgrade for a long time.

I'd say at least 1GB of RAM with the virtual memory set to 1.5 times the size of the RAM (1.5GB - good rule of thumb for any windows computer).

I think my 250GB HD is sufficient . . . but I don't have too many large files either.

it would want to purely be predicted, yet a minimum of three terabytes, and as a lot as as a lot as a petabyte (one million,000 TB). it truly is counting neurons. If reminiscence is kept on the molecular element the mind's means might want to actual run into thousands of exabytes or more beneficial.
