I understand that it could take up to five years to recieve a voucher, but I have come across other programs like Familly unification choice vouchers. I see that I clearly qualify, but who the heck applies for me? It says that an organization or program, but I still just can't seem to find out where to apply.

I don't know what it is like where you live but here each county and even the different citys have wait lists of different lengths.
I live in the capitol city of Iowa and there are 6 different burbs adjacent to it. you might try looking to see if moving a bit might help.
the wait lists in West DM and in Urbandale and the other burbs are different lengths than the DM one. This might not help much but it is worth looking into.
Talk with the person you turned your paperwork in to. Ask if you are near the top yet.
You might be just a few people below the top of the list by now. Maybe ... I can't answer more than this.
but see where your name is on the list and look into what the wait would be in adjoining towns or the next county.
sometimes changing counties makes a big difference.

I would just not bother. Get a better job, and move into a good neighborhood. If you move into a section eight neighborhood about 1/3 of your neighbors will be drug dealers, and most of the rest will be users. Just drive past such a place. Those hoods are the worst. Almost all the hoods around Phoenix have the police called out almost every single day. Just walk though the hood, at any time. You will smell crack, and pot. I bet you can find a broken crack pipe on the ground at any given time.
I have to agree with some of the other posters. If you can afford a computer, and the internet, you can pay rent. You need not suck of the government.

The wait list for S8 is different all over the country--here, it's only 6-8 months..Other places longer or shorter than where you're at.
Never heard of "family unification choice" vouchers, whoever distributes them should be able to help you there.
and even tho you have a good question and are looking for serious answers, I will apologize ahead of time for all the jerks that will tell you to "get a job" and other such nasty things.

There are different types of Section 8. And many people
waiting in line to get them.
Vouchers where you can live anywhere. Section 8 in apartment
complexes, where you get utility allowances too.
To get on quickly, you have to fit certain conditions. Homeless is
the priority, but you need to be living in a shelter to prove it.
If your apartment is run down, you can be quickened through the process. Or if someone is harassing you at your place of residence.
