Hi - I knew a girl (with a degree in psychology) who did voluntary work at Dalwood Childrens' Home (at Seaforth, Sydney) with me. I think this helped her gain experience and exposure to people in the profession. She did get a job a few months after that at a Womens' Refuge Centre. (I also got a job as a Child and Family Nurse after gaining some familiarity with the work). Certainly, I think, it would be helpful to put into practice what you've learnt wherever you are and this would flow into a position that suits you. There are many jobs advertised so you could also apply for several and also learn more about what suits you through the interviews. M.(female).

I have a Psychology degree and right now I am a Probation Counselor here in Georgia. You can go into any area with a Psychology degree especially working for the state.I was working for the state before I got my degree so this was a promotion for me. Even interning can get your foot in the door so that you can learn things.
Try to get a counseling job at the state level if you can and make sure you get the training that you need. If all else fails go ahead and start taking assessment tests for teaching and you can become a teacher. Find out what programs for teaching they have in your state and go for it. If you want to take your psychology higher at least you will have some type of experience and will be getting paid by the state.

Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.

I have been pondering the same question, but at master's level.
I wouldn't do it unless you were interested in either helping others through counseling, even group counseling, research or teaching. Otherwise, you could be a writer in your area of expertise.
