why do people cut themselves? how does that help relieve stress?

i don's really understand it but i think it is so they can have control over something in there life. but like i said i don't understand it so i may be wrong

It is a control issue. They are either being abused verbal, emotionally or sexually or they have a controlling parents and this is a way that they control their situation. That is why alot of people are anorexic
