Sweetheart, try pushing a grapefruit into your mouth. Okay, imagine that in reverse. A woman's pelvis has to separate in order for a human being to pass through her body. This is a slow and painful process that takes hours, in some cases (mine) even days. Contractions are a direct result of the bones shifting and separating an inch at a time til the opening is large enough for the baby to squeeze through. And let's not forget the vaginal opening can only stretch so far, it's not made of rubber you know, and when it has strecthed as far as it can, it tears or rips from the pressure of the baby coming through. Well, that is unless your doctor takes a scalpal or surgical scissors and cuts you to minimize the damage Now does that sound like it hurts? Huh? All glory and praise be to God for the almighty Epidural!
Just talking about it makes me want to go smack my kids up side their big heads!

Read and get well informed. I would suggest the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. It will hurt, but it does not have to be horrible pain. I have had 4 with no pain medication and I have had hunger pains before that were worse than labor. Tension causes cramping which causes most of the pain. My labor felt nothing like cramping, because I prevented it from doing that.

Yes it hurts - if you give birth naturally. Or if your doctor permits you can have certain drugs to help with the pain but I don't know for sure if you can be completely put under to give birth. As far as what it is like - everyones experience is different so don't expect what happened to someone else to happen to you or for you to feel the same way.

Labor is individual for each woman and for each baby. I've had 4 babies and each was unique.
Labor is pretty uncomfortable at times, but it is also the most exciting awe-inspiring experience that you will ever go through.
When you see that baby I promise it will be worth it. I would do it again for my 4 in a heartbeat.

It is difficult, but if you are well prepared you can handle it. I had three unmedicated and felt great after each. The worst parts of each labor were only a few minutes. (Basically transition, crowing and pushing out the shoulders.)

your body is designed to do it, but it still hurts pretty bad. the labor and the contractions hurt, but the actual baby coming out part didn't hurt too bad. it was just stretching and burning pain but i didn't tear so i can't tell you how that feels. but the contractions, ohhhhh, they hurt! but when you push the contraction pain stops and it actually feels kinda good. that's why women get so mad when the doctor tells them not to push. it's like "you're telling me to not do the one thing that makes the pain stop? hell no!!!"

No honey... having a 7-pound baby squeeze through your vagina is as easy as pie.
Of course it hurts... that's why they call it LABOR PAINS. Not LEISURE FUN...
