Stephen Harper is quoted as saying about AIDS: "...Prime Minister Stephen Harper said it wouldn't be the right time to make announcements because the issue had become 'so politicized' . . ." (ref. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/08/18/aids-conference.html )
This admission that he, a politician, is not prepared to deal with the politics of an important issue like AIDS seems to be an admission of his incompetence. In general, one would think that politicians would be prepared to deal with political issues. Don't you think that it would be better for the country if he stepped aside and let people who would be willing to deal with the politics of important issues take charge of our government?

Anyone who ignores AIDS should not be in a position of power in government. This includes the late Reagan, Mbeki in South Africa, others.

AIDS education = fewer people dying of a horrible disease which is now preventable with changes in behavior. As an early slogan read, "Silence = death."

Thanks for the thought-provoking question.
