I know this may seem like a silly question but, at Sonic when the waiter comes out with the food to the car am I supposed to give them a tip?

I never really thought about it before untill yesterday when I was oredering a delicious Sonic Bacon Cheeseburger, a Chicken Clubb Toaster Sandwich, a side order of Mozzarella Sticks with delicious marinara sauce, an always refreshing Coca Cola, and for dessert a Cooling Sonic Blast.

The girl brought it out on the tray and after she stayed for a nano second longer then the usual in an ackward way she rolled her eyes and left.

Was I supposed to tip her?

I usually give them a few dollars. After all, they could just make you go in and get it like every other fast food place, but they bring it to you. And if you don't want them to, they do usually have a drive-thru too.

No, my rule is I only tip if I am being completley served and at a sit down place, maybe some don't agree, but like mentioned above, I used to be a waiter (full service sit down) and did not make minimum wage, I made $2.15 hr and I relyed on my tips, I know sonic employees makes minimum wage.

We went to Fud Ruckers the other day and I did not tip, it was basically self serve, ordered at the counter, pickld up my own food at the counter, the server brought out the drink thats it.

My husband used to work at Sonic and said it isn't required but a lot of people do it out of courtesy. They get paid minimum wage (not below as some waiters/waitresses do).

Did you know that the "Car Hopps" at Sonic are payed at least minimum wages. Unlike a regular "waiter/waitress" that is payed half of minimum wage because they are expected to receive tips to complete their wages. You make the decision, nothing says you can't tip, but nothing says you do tip either.

Dude, It's Fast Food..And It's not like there's a law that you HAVE to tip anyone...She's just greedy and stuck up...However, If You get a large order then, I think it's appropriate to give then maybe a few cents-$1...I wouldn't lose any sleep over the stuck waiter though! :)

Yes. But they only take cash tips. They go back and forth and serve you. Give them a Buck.

Plus, the one by me does a lot of charity events.
Like schools, churches, etc. have members vollenteer and serve food all day for tips for their charity. They usually have a sign posted of who it is. I was suprised one day that my server was a 9yr old boy and realised it was a charity day.

Well, maybe not like you would in a full-service sit-down restaurant, but she did bring the food out to where your butt and your car were parked.

Maybe a buck or two, just to let her know you appreciate her service.

yes, if someone has to walk over to bring you your food then you should tip but if youre goind thru drive-thru and they're handing it to you thru a window, my opinion is no tip.

$1 - $5 ---I tip $1.50
$5 - $10 - I tip $2.00
$10 - $15 I tip $3.00
$15 - $20 I tip $4.00
