some rap music has a good beat to it that is why everyone likes it but if you listen carefully the music is rather vulgar and gross. it is degrating when you find out that these men are talking about women like this. it is like we are just objects and possesions to them

Rap is not all that new, there was a time when it used to all make sense and it had a nice beat to it. I think it came out during that break dancing faze in the late 70's with rappers like Kurtis Blow and the Sugar Hill Gang (Rapper's Delight) but I think it was called hip hop at the time. It just became a little too violent. Its okay to hate it but I have to agree with some of the people that answered your question not all rap is bad, stay away from the so called gangsta rap and give the rest a chance. Kanye West is a good start.

Don McLean was the one that sun about the day the music died. This is no new news. Its 2006... it started in the late 90's. Little slow to comment, eh? How about the sad state of affairs that rock is in? Nickelback is an excellent example. Their first album was the best. After that, they turned into wuss-bags. It really sucks because I am out of the loop and it is hard to find decent music. I am usually stuck listening to my existing cd's. My recommendation to you is to start listening to groups from the UK. Hard-Fi, Franz Ferdinand, etc.

There are people who like all different types of music. I think the variety of music is the spice of life. Wouldn't it be boring if all we had to listen to is "sex, drugs and rock & roll"??? It's called diversity.

I hate it too. And unfortunatly, it's everywhere. I don't know what moron had the idea that everyone loves that music. I feel bad for kids today-they don't even get a chance to see what REAL music is.

Well all of rap is now like that. It seems that a person doesnt have to be talented to be a rapper nowadays. Thats why I like rock.
