I am now using the eMachines T5010...512 Ram (DDR SDRAM dual channel), 200 GIG SATA hard drive...It has ALL the bells and whistles. CD/R burn, DVD R/RW dual layer...

After 10 months of use...NEVER one problem. I download alot of movies and music. The Ram is upgradable to 4 Gig...Extra USB's for additional Exteral Hard drive and toys.

For $500.00, you can get a Dell with 60 Gig hard drive, or an eMachines with a 200 Gigger...Many times I have heard of Dells freezing up or having other problems.

Emachines are entry level computers (cheap)

If you're wanting to just surf the internet, email, play music, use for some school work, an Emachine is fine.

There is no need to buy little Johnny a $1000+ computer just so he can play games.

I have bought 4 EMachines for my grandchildren and many of my friends and neighbors have bought many Emachines as well with few (if any) problems.

They are an inexpensive computer but they are fine. Bought one for my son over a year ago. We just upgraded his graphic card and purchased more memory. Never had we any problems.

Oh, and I have known plenty of people who bought Dell (because they are cheap) and they had nothing but trouble. Stay away.

No. They are the cheap brand of Gateway now. I would get a Dell if you need a PC or a MacBook if you don't.

They are fine for the person who wants the basics. There isn't any support of them through their website, but obviously they are still around so that says alot there.

they work ok for people who just need to do basic things like word processing, etc. and wont change any settings. for anything beyond that, get a dell or gateway.
Hope this helps!

They are so bad that they used to give them away for free. When that didn't work they started charging for them.
