If you need several million dollars, then venture capital is the way to go. However, you may need to raise that amount in stages since few VC firms invest in seed (idea) stage companies. They want to see a prototype with some promising test runs already out of the gate before they invest. And most VC firms invest in particular industries in the local areas. So you may need to find some angel investors first and get your business past the idea stage. You might look into getting government loans, but these usually take longer than they are worth. Try www.gobignetwork.com. They have tons of investors that may be what you are seeking.

Make a Business Plan. Short list venture capital companies who have invested in similar ventures. Call them.

I'd start with researching government grants. It can be a pain. It can also have a major payoff.
