Propane or natural, either one, before you try it, be sure and remove the outer & inner doors and have a "sniff" around. If you smell gas, STOP and call the gas company or fire department.

1. Turn dial on top to off.
2. Wait 5 minutes
3. Turn knob to pilot position, lite match and put it to the pilot, hold the red button down. Keep holding button down for 60 seconds after pilot ignites (ok to remove match and blow it out so you don't burn your finger).
4. Release button, pilot shoulod remain lit.
5. Replace both doors and then turn knob to the on position. Water should be hot in 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of gallons.

6.If in the event pilot did not remain lit, call your local gas company. Ours provides free service for this, charging only if you need parts, and they can bill you for that. Or just call a plumber. good luck, cold showers suck.

You'll need something long enough to be able to hold a flame to the pilot light. Turn the gas knob to "Off" and wait five minutes. Turn it to "Pilot" and push down on the knob (there may be a separate knob to push down). That will let gas flow to the pilot nozzle. Place the flame of your lighter or burning stick next to the pilot nozzle and the pilot flame should light. Hold the knob down with the flame lit for 30 to 45 seconds. The flame should remain lit when you let up on the knob. They, you can turn the control to "On".

Don't do this yourself. Call your local gas company...they will be more than happy to do it for free.
