Hmmm... I replace mine when it starts getting clumpy or runs out. I never do the 3 month thing.

"Mascara should be replaced every three months."

"Mascara is one makeup product in your bag that you want to keep tabs on. It's a breeding ground for bacteria. Most mascaras with a tube & a wand have an antibacterial agent in them that last about 6 weeks making you safe for at least a couple months, & likely up to 4. You risk eye infection the longer you keep the product. If you notice the smell changes or the texture changes, throw it out. It's not worth it."

What happens when you let mascara sit even if you only use it once, bacteria grows. You can acquire a nasty eye infection if you do not change it regularly. Although if you use it once or twice every month you may be able to keep it an extra month. By that time it may start to dry and become too thick to use well.

No way...it's ok. Usually when mascara "goes bad" it turns clumpy and smells foul. They say to throw away mascara that's a year old because it increases the chances of getting an eye infection after that long. But no need to replace every three months. I use my mascara everyday and it lasts me longer than three months. But to be safe...I'd replace it after six months.

Mascara is like anything you use on your face or mouth....every 3 months would be a good rule of thumb. As you pump the wand you pump air into it and THAT make the bacteria GROW. This can cause an infection if you are not careful, and that very bad stuff.

no, i wouldnt if theyve hardly ever been used then they aent as used as ussualyy they ould be in 2 or 7 months, plus thre isn't any element dropping an effective mascara. the possibilities of you getting unwell, or a watch an infection from that mascara are narrow o none so only use the mascara solid success

If it is tightly closed and you only use it a few times a month, you may be able to keep it for a little longer than 3 months.

I usually use my mascara until it starts to dry up. Depending on how often you use it, it should last a little while longer.

You should. Bacteria can grow on the wand and can cause eye infections. It's less likely to happen the less you use your mascara. You could probably get away with keeping it I suppose, but doesn't it dry out? I live in Colorado & my mascara doesn't even last 2 months before it dries out.

Yes, because bacteria gets in the container when you first use it. The bacteria then begin multiplying, and could cause eye infections later on. The chemicals don't really break down, a product (in this case mascara) can sit on a shelf and be fine for a long time.

It is recommended that you replace mascara every three months. I've been told that this helps prevent eye infection and irritation. I also know that after about three months the product doesn't perform as well.
