I know exactly what you're talking about. It's just your uterus contracting (tightening up). It doesn't hurt, but it gets hard for a minute or so, then goes down. Mine lays all the way to the right and it looks really strange when it contracts...like my belly button is in the wrong position or something. Pretty funny.
It's great that you're experiencing this..because your uterus is "exercising," getting ready for the big day. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

I think it IS the baby, moving around, taking a position that changes the outline of your belly. I remember that from when I was pregnant. Sometimes one side would be high and the other low--like the little dickens had her butt up and her head down (she actually slept like that a lot after she was born)

Hi Monica,
What you're describing is probably braxton hicks contractions. They are normal contractions you have throughout your pregnancy that get your uterus ready to go into labor. They don't mean anything is wrong. It also could be your baby....but, probably braxton hicks. To be on the safe side, you should call your doctor. I am not a doctor and probably most of the people on yahoo answers aren't doctors either.....so you don't want to trust us with the health and well-being of you or your baby.
Throughout your pregnancy, you doctor will want to hear about any questions or concerns you have. Don't hesitate to call his/her office if you are unsure about something. They expect you to call them with questions...even in the middle of the night.....that's what they're there for! :-)
Congratulations on your pregnancy and enjoy you new little baby.....only 2 more months for you to go!!!!

Could it be Braxton-Hicks contractions?
I notice when I am getting up off the sofa or out of a chair, etc., the top of my belly contracts and pokes out further. It looks like and is about the size of a football. It also happens when I laugh or cough. Maybe you are contracting your muscles because you are reacting to something.

Actually, I think you are having Braxton Hicks "practice" contractions. The uterus gets ready for the big ordeal ahead of it by getting in shape this way. It is completely natural. But you are now going in to see your doctor at least every other week, right? so you should ask him/her to be sure.

It is the baby moving around. It causes the shape of your belly to change and the hard spots could be the babies head.

Could be braxton-hicks contractions. A lot of times they are not painful, but the hardening of the stomach is usually a contraction. Since you aren't experiencing pain I would say it is safe to assume that it is just braxton-hicks. Your uterus is practicing for the big day.

They are braxton hicks contractions. Sometimes you don't feel them. They are nothing to worry about, just muscles getting ready for labor. This doesn't mean you will go into labor soon, it's just your muscles stretching and trying to work. It's normal and won't cause any harm to you or the baby.

That's a contraction. Not a real one...it's called a Braxton Hicks contraction, and it's your body's way of practicing for real labor. They're common about midway through your pregnancy through to the end when the real contractions start.
