While I cannot figure out what this has to do with books and authors, I will try to provide what help I can, speaking from a guy's perspective.
Rule 1: If he keeps staring at you (not like a stalker, but more so than a friend) than turns away when you look at him, he is probably flirting.
Rule 2: If he keeps on teasing you (nicely), he is probably flirting.
Rule 3: If he seems determined to sound impressive when he talks to you, and/or make you seem angelic, he is probably flirting (or has a HUGE ego).
Rule 4: If he is using cheesy pick-up lines left and right (i.e. "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" etc.) than he is DEFINITELY flirting (albeit very badly).

You can always tell a guy is flirting by the attention he gives you! any time a guy takes out time to notice you or do something out of the ordinary you can be pretty sure

Let me assure you that if he is flirting with you, you will know it! Eye contact in which it appears the eyes are dancing, a electric feeling coming from his direction, a smile, a head tilt, a warmth radiating from his bodies, an overall sense of well being, attention vented your direction are a few of the ways you will know.

It really depends upon the individual. Some of the things he might do are lots of eye contact, smiling, winking, or touching your arm or shoulders. Nowadays it's acceptable for a girl to ask the guy out, so go for it! At the worst, he'll say "no," and then you can move on.

How is this question book related? Anyway, just look for things he is doing out of character when he's around you. If he acts differently with you than with his friends, if he changes his voice or appearance when he sees you, etc. Watch for stuff like that. Also, even though it's weird, you could just ask him if he likes you. Not the best approach, but it does work. Good luck!

Simple. Put a phoney angry look on .. point your finger at him and ask him. Yes = yes. Maybe = yes. Blushing no = yes. Angry no = yes. Deadpan no = no. Laughing hysterically no = there's no telling.
