i think that she is plus sized only in comparison to contemporary actresses/models. so when people refer to her as plus sized, it's only relative to to contemporary stars rather than in comparison to regular women.
but yeah, it is pretty dumb

Well, I agree that that is average...unfortunately a lot of department stores consider anything over 10 or 12 plus sized. But I had no idea she was a 13!! That's amazing. i'll be sure to let anyone know that who teases me about being a 12. ; )

Well, consider the fact that "they"( you know them ,right?) say Liv Tyler--the elf woman from LoTR is plus sized...
Back when she was alive Monroe was Not considered plus sized; however, we (some of us)are manipulated by mass media to believe things should not be the way that they actually ARE...that way they can sell more: you can insert the subject of your choice...and Yes, it is ridiculous; to put it mildly.

Unfortunately that's the screwy world in which we live.
I live near one of the studios in LA and around here it's common to run into actors and actresses shopping for groceries and running daily errands. I'm often surprised how unhealthy many look (both men and women) in person. Even ones that I find attractive on screen appear gaunt and "hollowed out."
It seems that the more "advanced" we get, the more superficial we become. We get our knowledge from five-second sound bytes and we define ourselves based on numbers and statistics.

You need to correctly identify the influencing figures in the fasion icon industry which seems to set the standard.
Harpers, Vouge, Project Runway
I think you will find that the editors and casting producers are by far women and homosexual men.
Have you ever heard "Men dress for women, Women dress for other women"?
When heterosexual men are polled, tend to prefer Monroe and Lopez.

unfortunatly in society, most women are considered plus size if they are over a size 1. It's very sad and degrading.

They are comparing her to the fashion norms of today. We never knew what "plus-size" was yrs. ago. Nobody cared! I agree with you. Plus Size used to be 22 or greater!

So, if one of these Hollywood starlets wanted to play Marilyn in a movie, she'd have to GAIN weight?!!!
Hilarious!!!
The pressures in Hollywood are legendary. Marilyn collapsed under Hollywood pressure, so it's obviously still a very unhealthy climate to exist in.
Make you wonder how difficult it is for today's rising stars.......
