Nope. You don't have to invite anyone. It's your wedding and your day. However, I will tell you that it will make for some hurt feelings if you hold the wedding in the same town that your family lives in. And they will never let you live it down (my brother did that to my family--we still haven't totally forgiven him yet).
My advice to you: go to another town to get married, maybe even get married in the same place where you plan to take your honeymoon. That way, you can just tell everyone that you decided to get married there (if you feel the need you can add that you didn't think they could afford to come, or that you decided to elope, or whatever to keep people from getting upset with you).

It's like many things, you don't have too but it looks better. If you don't feel good in their presence then don't invite them. You can always do a small wedding and invite only close friends and part of his family for example. Marry in a place you like but your family don't ;-)

It's your wedding and you can invite anyone you want. I'd suggest that you go away to get married or elope. That way no one will want to spend the money to see you get hitch. If you elope then you can say it's too late for guests!!! Neither would be your fault and there would be no hard feelings. If anyone asks just say, no one was invited because there wouldn't be any hard feelings from those who wouldn't be there.

I think etiquette dictates that family should be invited (especially to a first wedding) but personally, I say it's your wedding you invite who you want.

When you get married, you get to invite the people you want to be there. There is no law saying that family has to be there, and anyways, family, real family doesn't have to be a bllod relative. I consider most of my real friends more family that blood relatives.

I guess you don't have to invite your family. You might crush their hearts, but it's your wedding and your decision, so do what you want.

Invite me instead!
I think you might have to invite them, though I understand the feeling of not wanting them to be there.

It depends on the cercumstances. If you think there is one bit of a possibility you will one day reconcile with them, invite them. If not, then you have the option to opt them out.
It's YOUR Day ... you can pretty much do what you want.
