I posted this question in Society and Culture, but I'm thinking that may not have been the best place for it, so I'm going to try here. If you have already seen this question, I apologize. I just need some gut reactions. See below:

You enter an online discussion forum that you have never been in before, and you know nothing about any of the participants. Two participants (we'll call them A and B) are having a disagreement. During the course of the discussion, participant A calls participant B a "dark monkey," a phrase you cannot relate to the main discussion.

1.) What is your initial reaction to that phrase?

2.) What opinion does this give you about participant A (who typed the phrase)?

3.) What opinion does this give you about participant B (if any.)

Just need your quick gut reactions. Nothing too deep. Nobody's in court over this :) Thanks!

I don't usually form opinions of people just over the way they are chatting. It's the worst place to talk because facial expressions are very important in conversations.

1) I would think it is a remark on the persons race or ethnicity. Since it's the word 'dark' - a lot of races can fall under that. By monkey I would think he is calling the other person uncivilized or lower than human beings.

2) Like I said I wouldnt form an opinion but the remark would indicate that A does not respect people who might be different from him.

3) No opinion

i'd not call it a public service, yet I do ought to assert that it truly is staggering to be able of get your opinion heard. also, i'm VERY proactive and any recommendations or hyperlinks that I see on yahoo solutions, i look into and that i bypass them alongside. If we sit down on our butts, not something receives carried out. a minimum of yahoo solutions receives people fired up and possibly get out and do something. the concept that if myself and others well suited like me did not come out and say or do something, this united states might want to flow downhill so quick. One major situation with yahoo solutions is their lack of duty in searching into violations. illiberal people stupidly record some questions and solutions. some solutions were not undesirable and some questions were not undesirable, very few illiberal goon that feels purely his/her opinion is what should be heard. So, i might want to ought to provide a huge thumbs right down to yahoo solutions in this element.
