Abortion to me is a selfish act. It is killing. The moment that the sperm and egg meet, there is a human being. That is what I beleive. However, has abortion ever been truly justified?

I agree that in some special situations, like rape, incest or others it should be allowed. But what I am saying is that doing it as a casual thing because you decided to have sex and oops here came a baby is not right.

I feel so strongly about this subject because I can't see why anyone would ask for the death of their unborn child. My mother had a miscarraige and I saw how devestated she was. To see women having an abortion like it is no big deal, pains me.

I am not in favor of abortion at all, but at the same time I believe the government has no right to stop a woman from getting one. The woman should be allowed to make the choice herself, even if people like us don't agree with it.

Is forcing a woman to carry an unwanted fetus, to go through the pain of pregnancy, childbirth, and then the subsequent years and expense of child rearing justified by the same token?

One person calls the embryo a human being... by scientific standards, another person can call same embryo can be considered a parasite.

Now don't get me wrong... personally I don't like abortion, if I were to get a woman pregnant, I would feel strongly about taking care of the child.

However (and religious considerations aside), what's more important to people....

Forcing your opinions on a woman that made a mistake, changed her mind, was raped, is having life-threatening medical problems due to the rigors of pregnancy...

or allowing a man (the father who should be part of the decision) and woman (who should have the final say) to choose a better time and place for parenthood?

If you FORCE a woman to have a child, are you WILLING to take care of it? It's well and good to campaign for the rights of a fetus, but what of the rights of a fully formed and functioning adult life?

Personally, I am not wise enough to make a life altering decision for someone else so personally, even though I am pro-life, I remain pro-choice.

Note: For some enlightening reading, do some research on the thousands of women that mutilated themselves or killed themselves when abortion was illegal. Having no other legal recourse, many 'consulted' black market doctors who were willing to perform illegal and dangerous abortions.

Women found dead from internal bleeding in bathtubs with different objects attempting self-abortion. Unpleasant and not pretty. 1.2 million reported self abortions (which does not include the reported ones). Just looked up wikipedia for a source of information.

Certainly abortion may be selfish, but punishing the woman, is it worth her life?

It should be the choice of the individual woman, the father and the advice of the physician. If a person is not prepared to raise a child, it is hoped that there would be a loving family willing to adopt the child but this may not be the case.

Perhaps someone may want to get statistics from the 50 states of the state wards who are abused, abandoned and neglected children. When a person is not prepared to raise a child, the results can be devastating.

It is best to have sex education and birth control taught early during pre-adolescence. There are effective forms of birth control that do not require taking a daily pill. Condoms must still be used to prevent disease. The abstinance programs are very good but it takes extrordinary faith to overcome hormones. Therefore, depending on abstinance may result in pregnancy and a lot of guilt.

Abortion is an issue that has faced people for ages. It is good to discuss the issue but nothing will be resolved easily.

The most obvious case that comes to mind is rape. Is it just or right to force a woman to carry a child created in this way? I do not see this as selfish on the victim's part by any means. She has had a crime commited upon her.

What about a case where the pregnancy could kill the mother? Wouldn't it be just to allow the parents to decide in this instance?

I know I will hear from people that these cases should be banned as well, but you asked for my opinion, so here it is. I would hope that others can respond in kind with their thoughts and arguments, vs. "the bible says so." Then this would be a true debate.

This question is very personnal. For you, abortion is not an option. There are many reasons and indications for abortion. For instance, if you knew your baby would die within a few days of being born, would you put it through the misery of death? There are many situations where a baby can go through pregnancy, but their anomalies are incompatible with life. If you knew you were carrying a baby that could only live a few days, but it took those days for the baby to slowly die, would you make it go through the misery? Or if you were violently raped, could you emotionally go through a pregnancy that resulted? What about your friends? What would they do? Abortion is a very personal and situational issue. People should not be judged if they choose to abort. There are many valid reasons, and the decisions are up to the individual.

It is a selfish act, ANY killing is a selfish act, with all the other killing going on, why are you wasting so much time on one kind? It is not justified by truth, but by necessity, as is plenty of the other killing in the world - that is, the necessity of the killer. If my wife was raped and impregnated, or we fell on hard times while she was pregnant and it would mean the break up of her and I, or something just as bad, I would tell her "I will support you fully with whatever you want to do. I understand." It is, perhaps, one quarter the man's choice, and three quarters the woman's.

Throughout our species' history we have done things like this survive. You would be disgusting and horribly ignorant to claim that anyone enjoys such a thing, but incredulty on even considering it is hypocrisy and arrogance of a high degree.

I work with children who are abandoned and left on the streets ... that is the other side of the coin.

If it was a perfect world with pro-life activists actively taking care of these abandoned street kids (in the very least - because there are many children neglected in their parental home as well as in the foster care system) all over the world, then perhaps one could pass judgment on those women who are aware of their limitations when it comes to raising another child. It is not an easy decision for these women, yet it is a very brave decision. Also remember that not every woman engaging in sexual intercourse is a willing partner.

There is ALWAYS the other side of the coin and let us refrain from judging others before we have walked in their shoes and lived their lives.

You know, to each her own! I believe one shouldn't be so dead set against it. There are extenuating circumstances to the procedure. ie: rape. That a big one. Also, if you cannot care for a child, why have one? Yes, I agree they are a blessing and I hope to have children in my near future, but If i could not care for one, I wouldn't have one. A lot of people bring children into this world for selfish reasons and then leave that child to basically fend for themselves. That is wrong. Some would say, don't have sex if you can't handle the consequences. But what if the preventative measures weren't 100%. You tried to avoid pregnancy, but Oops, the condom broke.

It is a choice. A choice that no man can take away.

No. First reasoning: Abortion is homicide. yet, killing yet another human without a justification provided with the aid of regulation (i.e. self-protection the place accepted) is likewise homicide. 2 wrongs do no longer make a superb. 2nd reasoning: Christians earnings the directive to no longer kill from the ten Commandments (and different passages interior of Scriptures). The Hebrew word it is maximum many times interpreted as "kill", as in "thou shalt no longer kill", is 'ratsach' (homicide). homicide is an argument of an unlawful killing of yet another person. Killing all people, which comprise abortionists, is homicide. As regards capital punishment: From the Christian attitude, all governments are ordained with the aid of God (Romans 13). for this reason, if a central authority (State or Federal) administers a dying penalty, then it is interior of their good. As a us of a the place the government is ostensibly of, with the aid of and for the persons, those government reflect the perspectives of the constituency. i'm a Conservative Christian. finally, i've got confidence that i'm to desire for the sinner, and that God will decide.

No. I am pro-choice but I can't justify killing (yes I do believe its killing) a baby. I just know that I can't make those decisions for anyone.

Birthcontrol, Education, Standards of Conduct are all things needed to stamp out the need.
