question posted under HW / Monitor;
guess it has to do with PC monitors, right?
there are different technologies out there;
CRT monitors are starting to be seriously out, now, even for very big displays, but just in case... Sony and EIZO are top of the line but expensive because professional quality.
LCD panels;
you get different things, too; or the old fashioned 4/3 or 5/4 panels or the latest 16/9 or even 16/10 panels;
LCD panels only work nicely on their native resolution (that's 1024*768 for 15", 1280*1024 for most 17, 18 & 19";
for 16/9 or 16/10, the 19" usually have a width of 1440 and the 20" 1680 (height depending on the ratio)
this makes for very small letter, so if you are browsing a lot of different sites, you'll want to stick to a 19" 5/4 screen;
anyway, if money isn't an issue, go for an EIZO; they look cool, however, so if you want warmer colors, stick to your usual Sony;
i settled for an ACER as a widescreen PC FTP panel and pretty happy with it (but put my (primary) browser on the old 18" EIZO, otherwise the sites fonts are too small)
