This is called increasing. When you do your sc to create the peak all you have to do is sc in the chain, go back into the same chain and sc again. Then go into that same chain and sc one more time. You now have 3 sc in the same chain. I hope this helps. I know it can be a bit confusing.

Single crochet in the third chain from hook, and in next 4 chains. 3 single crochet in the next chain (this creates the peak of the ripple) *single crochet in the next 5 chains, skip next 2 chains (this creates the valley of the ripple), single crochet in the next 5 chains, 3 single crochet in the next chain, repeat from * across to last 6 chains. Single crochet in the last 6 chains. You'll have 66 single crochets.

Great pattern...the very first crochet pattern I did was a ripple lap afghan. Good luck!

If you know your basic stitches, here it is. Single crotchet in third chain stitch from hook and in next 4 chains, 3 single crotchets in the next chain. *(this is where you will start the repeat) single crotchet in next 5 chains, skip next 2 chains, single crotchet in next 5 chains, 3 single crotchets in next chain * repeat from * across to last 6 chains, single crotchet in last 6 chains - total of 66 single crotchet stitches.

Hint - It goes faster and looks better if you do double crotchet.

If you don't know your stitches, go to About.com, and click on Hobbies. There are step by step instructions on how to make them.
