An article in the school newspaper reported that cutlery, glasses, places, and even trays are being broken or solen from the cafeteria in large quantities. The expense of replaceing the items is going to force the cafeteria to use paper plates, plastic utensils, and acrylic cups and unless something can be done. The amount of garbage that will be created by this change is immense.

What is the question?
Paper and plastic can be recycled. Acrylic cups can be washed. Food waste can be composted. How is there any more garbage, if people are conscientious? Make it a point to institute these processes if you are concerned about garbage and utilization of resources.

Perhaps you should address the root cause of the problem, which is the theft of items from the cafeteria. What can be done about this?

Have a separate container that someone watches over to make sure they dump leftover food in and throw the plates and cutlery in a recycle bin.
