How To Operate A Bobcat

Not hard to drive but can be dangerous. We have one on the farm where we live and use it for snow removal, keeping the rock driveway in shape, moving basic materials around, etc. The two upright levers control the direction of the wheels and the pedal controls operate the boom and bucket. Easy enough and with a little practice you should be able to control one. But, whether or not you'd be very efficient or safe with it, is another matter.

If you are thinking of renting one, be forwarned, when the bucket is full of a heavy load, the machines center of gravity changes dramatically when that load is raised. Therefore, always move the machine with the bucket in the lowest possible position, especially when loaded.

If you have a choice of using one with an operators cage / roll guard equipped, by all means choose one with that option.
Skid loaders are very easy to tip over, usually resulting in loss of life.

It's funny you should ask that! I just asked some contractors at my house that same question. Apparently, it's much harder to control that bucket than you would think. I watched a 20 year veteran of Bobcats drive one through my fence gate with barely an inch to spare on either side-impressive! He said that he had won two events in Bobcat Rodeos (yes, there is such a thing!). Drive at your own risk!

We have both bobcats and Cat loaders in the Steel Mill I work at. Bobcats are much easier to drive. It take some coordination, be very cautious raising loads up high, you can tip forward. We use bobcats daily for hundreds of tasks. Drive with your hands operate the bucket with foot pedals, if you can drive a stick shift you can operate one easily.

A Cat skid steer is simple to run versus a Bobcat in a Bob cat you have two joysticks that control forward and backward motion your feet control up and down bucket and curling of the bucket. While a Cat has two joy sticks one controls forward ,backward left and right and the other stick controls the bucket..

Very easy. Push the levers forward and you go forward. Pull them back and you go backwards. The trick is coordinating the bucket movements with the loader movements. Another thing is loaders become very top-heavy if the bucket is full and raised up. Very easy to tip over.

it drives just like a tank. one foot pedal raises and lowers the bucket and the other dumps it.

Don't try it. It's very dangerous if you are not experienced with it.
