Does anyone understand what the terms "communism", "fascism", "democracy", and "republic" mean? It is possible to have a communist, fascist democratic republic! Saying "one or the other" is comparing apples and oranges. As far as fascism...by definition...the for-running fascist states are Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iran, The United States, North Korea, China, the Phillipines, Indonesia, Cuba, and Mexico. Communism is an economic system, not a political one. The USSR was a republic...like the United States. But the US is capitalist, as opposed to communist. Technically, there has never been a communist country. There was always an upper class in China, Russia, etc, which is not possible in true communism.
Also, it is not neccesary to have a dictator to be a fascist state...a ruling group or class that works together to create this kind of system can still be fascist. And, of course, since Bush wasn't elected either time, he is technically an usurping dictator.

Unfortunately some people believe the propaganda they are subjected to, and never bother to research the Honorable Hugo Chavez.
The USA has lost it's credibility, and is losing it's stranglehold on the rest of the world.
Hugo Chavez is a clear example of what can be achieved when countries disregard their orders from Washington:-
Over 17 million people now have access to free health care and medicines for the first time.
Over 1 million people taught to read and write.
Participation encouraged for all Venezuelans in the formation, implementation, and operation of their democracy.
Venezuela has become truly, a democracy of the people, by the people and for the people, after years of US intervention and suppression.
But of course the people in power in the USA have labeled Chavez a terrorist, communist, dictator, etc. etc.
And, who could forget, Venezuela has oil, lots of oil, enough to bring prices down.
Around the world, whenever an alternative political systems have emerged they have been brutally crushed, or isolated by our ruling elites for what they call "the threat of a good example"

You could solve the whole problem with no government system at all whatsoever.
Frankly I don't like handing control of my all to the White house, congress, the school system, mental health or anyone else maybe I'm paraniod but the only person you can trust right now is God and his son Jesus.
Everyone else will lie to you, use you and cheat because they are sinners and so am I and we know not what we do.
Freedom comes from knowing you are ok wit the Lord and knowing we are just mortal, set judgement in the hands of who it belongs to and get on with living, helping others, etc.
No government is perfect, none can "save" you, they are mortal as well.

Mussolini is labeled a facist more than anyone in history thus far.
Most people don't realize that Hitler as well as Mussonlini were very Anti-Communist.
Probobly because Communism robs the people and turns them into slaves.
So Mussolini, I guess.

I don't think any modern country can be called fascist. The US is pretty close, though, along with a couple others.

spain and italy around WW2 were both facist nations. some people might say that the U.S. is close but I think as long as we still have free elections we should be ok.
