I have the TI-83 Plus
If yours has a MATH button, press it. Under Math, function 1 is fractions and function 2 is decimals
2 - / - 3 - + - 2 - / - 3 = 1.33333333
2nd - ANS - MATH - 1 = 4/3
2nd - ANS - * - 2 - = 2.666666669
2nd - ANS - MATH - 1 - = 8/3

I don't have a TI-81 - but if it's like my TI:
Just type in what you need to like
(2/3) + (5/6) ... and it will come up with some decimal
Then hit your 'Math' button and then choose the Fraction Option.
It should convert whatever decimal back into a fraction
So for that problem it would give you (3/2)
I think I answered your question...hope it works... good luck.

You can make it in fraction form by using the division button and then putting the fraction in an equation.
ex. 2/3 + 1/2 = 1 1/6

Should have coughed up the extra money for the TI-89. In general, the 81 does not leave numbers in fraction notation. It converts them to their decimal expansion. There was a function on some of the older TI's to convert decimals into fractions. It still may be built in, but you're going to have to use it *every time* you want something converted.
