i'm assuming that each and every time the macro is administered, you opt to be able to specify the column to apply. Make each and each column a named decision on your worksheet, e.g. if col. A contains surnames, choose it and call it "Surname" on your VBA code, create an enter field to ask for the call of the column, and assign it to a variable, enable's say "ColName" Then decision(ColName).choose will choose that column. If my assumption grow to be incorrect, and also you regularly opt to choose a column with surnames, yet which will be in diverse places, then naming the column "Surname" and making use of decision("Surname").choose will artwork.

if you are looking for a specific text in a cell then start the macro and use ctrl-f to find the text. put in the text you want and hit find. once it finds it then stop the macro.
