It's actually not a trance. It's an instinctual response to predators and is not comfortable to do to them unless they are feeling really safe. It can be a very stressful experience for the rabbit so should only be done when clipping nails or for vetrinary care so that it is not overused.

ya i do it all the time to my baby bunnies. you lay them on their back and keep petting their head and pretty soon they will just fall asleep and wake up shortly after. it is awsome
