Dryer sheets can break down the fibers in whatever you are drying (that's how they soften), but it is so minor that you would have to use 100 dryer sheets each time for about 6 years to see any negative effects. I love the way dryer sheets smell, so I usually use 2 no matter how big the load. Plus, I use liquid fabric softener in the wash. I'm so hooked on the smell.

Yes,, you can be arrested for using more than one per load. The Dryer Police are watching for people like you. The good news is if you go to jail for using too many softener sheets it's not "Hard" time you do----it's "soft" time.

I usually put two of them in a normal sized load. But if it's a big load of .... say .... towels or sheets, I'll put in 4 because one or more them may get trapped in the large items and not be able to go around with all items.

I used to do it all of the time and have never had a problem.
When I switched to usingTide with Downy, I was able to cut back to one dryer sheet. (Heh, I sound like a smoker trying to quit.)

I normally put more, depending on the size of the load, I just want the laundry to feel smooth and smell fresh

no it won't hurt anything but your wallet....in truth you only need 1/3 of a sheet per load of any size to do the trick

Absolutely no problem with that.
In fact, I've found if you use two they come out smelling even more fresh and even more soft!
