I think being treated the way i was in school by other kids, made me the kind of person i am, today i am a nurse within the disability sector, and i work with alot of disabled kids (im not myself, but i had brothers and sisters that were.....) i teach them alot about self esteem and treating others as you would like to be treated yourself as surviving your school years is all about how you react to different situations......im also an advocate on a community board in regards to physical and sexual abuse....as i was also abused as a child.....my theory is, that, you may not be able to do anything about your own situation, but you can help others when going through the worst periods of their life.....so that their lives dont turn in the wrong direction. Life is about the choices we make and which path we chose when we come to a cross road.....you can either take the good with the bad and accept it and continue to live your life the best you can by helping others, or you can turn down another path, and head into drugs, prostitution and worse things.....as you can see i chose the former rather than the later.

No ONE situation determined the person I am today. I would say all of the experiences and situations I went through helped determine the person I am.

When I was about 7, I was dropped off at a community center to go swimming while my grandma went to the store. After she left I found out the place was closed and I got locked out. She did not come back for about an hour. For a very long time, I used to worry about everything, I was afraid of getting lost or left alone. But I got tired of that, so I don't worry about anything anymore. The over-worrying for so long changed me into a carefree person.

There is not ONE situation that can possibly determine who I am today. I am a conglomerate of all the good and bad things that happened.

I am floored by some of these answers. Mine is when I was 14 and I left my mom's house to move in with my dad. Sometimes I wonder how I would have turned out if I would have stayed with my mom, but then I see how messed up my brothers and sisters are, and I am just thankful I got out when I did.

My grandparents raised me. One day I asked my grandpa why he took care of me from the time I was a baby. He said, "Someone had to love you and that's my job." So, from that point on, I was determined to be the kind of person that would love you or help you or just listen to you because it's my job!

I have never done drugs because of my friends in High School.
On day one of my friends brought pot to school and was going to
smoke it after lunch. Another friend went to talk her out of it and this friend told a third friend to get me away form the area.
Because of that I am a much better person today being drug free.

Not a fair question. It takes a lifetime of situations to form a personality.
However, if I were to single out one particular incident, I would say being nearly beaten to death in grade-school and picked on mercilessly because my Mother committed suicide, (in a "Christian" school), would more-than-likely sum it up.

My brother dying at the age of 7, with me being only 4. I wonder how much different I would be had I not grown up as an only child.
