I used to have a UCI cinema Pass, and went to the Cinema 2-3 times a week.
The majority of Films now have many scenes edited back into them which in some cases improve the film - paying for an incomplete film at the cinema, to me is a rip...

SEX AND VIOLENCE. I was trying to be funny, but when you think about it going to the movies (I gather your from Great Britian because only they say to the Cinema) has always been the first date for many a guy and girl. It is popcorn and being out. It is having a night away from the TV and the KIds.

It is just plain fun. Plain and simple.

If you live in the UK, cinema is VERY expensive. I live in London and I never go there, except for a few films.

However, cinema can be a good, quiet night out with your friends. Then you can go have a drink. And the screen is definitely bigger! I watch my dvds on a ... laptop! I'm used to it now, but it was a bit weird at first cos the screen is definitely small. But I can smoke while watching the film, so it compensates!

I'd say I'd see a movie in the theater for the experience of seeing it on a large screen with good sound. I've also found that there are movies that are much more enjoyable to watch with a large audience there...to share the feeling of disgust at a gross part, or laugh together at a funny part, or just to be in an area where so many people are experiening a similar emotion.
Often the audience is what makes a movie going experience so entertaining.

Theres nothing like going the pictures to watch a film because if you go with the person you love you can get all soppy or naughty on the backrow, you can tell people who havent seen the film what its like before them,if you go to a good cinema the surround sound is amazing and you can just stuff your face full of cinema food, personally i love the sweets.

It depends. Personally I hate going to the cinema and prefer to wait until I can rent the D.V.D.
I like the privacy of my own home; being able to relax and smoke and drink and stop the film if I have to go to the loo or answer the phone or something like that.
And if it is a movie which will make me get angry or weep, I prefer to let rip in private.
But if the cinematography and photography are exceptionally beautiful, many people prefer to see that on a huge screen. Same with sound.
And if you are dating, it is still one of the best places to go.

I agree with you! For the price of 2 tickets to the cinema you can often buy the film and watch it whenever you like, with no phones ringing, or people sitting behind you, telling someone else the end halfway thru the movie.

Because its fun to go to the cinema especially if you don't go very often. Its a day/night out and the sound effects are not the same as the cinema.

The reason that people still go to the theaters is because it allows them a form of entertainment; whether it is alone, with someone, or as a family. It develops their social skills to be able to interact with other individuals in a social setting.
Another reason why people go to the theaters is for the atmosphere. The movie screen is bigger then life while viewing it, the sound is better, and some people even prefer the popcorn at a theater for the "full cinema effect".
As for myself, I work in a theater and I prefer to watch some movies on the big screen more then others like: Horror movies because they seem scarier in a big dark theater, "water" movies like "Poseidon" because I feel like I am right there, and Action movies like "Star Wars" or "Spider man" because it appears bigger then life and that space is infinite.
The last significant reason for going to the movies is because people prefer to see their favorite movie star up on the big celluloid screen complete with hi-definition surround sound in all their glory. It is their way of paying homage to their favorite star.
So in answer to your question there are three relevant reasons people still go to the theater:Cultural (Social), Special effects, and to see the "Man or Woman of their dreams"...and that is why, "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!"

Its still such a cool experience to see it at the cinema, although I only do tend to go to certain films that I really want to see and even then I'll wait till its been out a while and go late at night to avoid annoying kids and people sitting in front of me!

The experience of the big screen and the sound. Even the biggest home cinema system aint as big and exciting as the real thing.
