Ok...I am delivery my 3rd child on Oct.3 by c-section. My husband and I want to have another baby, but want to wait until my oldest is in school. (He's 3) I asked my doctor about the IUD implant, but he said he would NOT recommend it due to causing infections and scar tissue build-up in the uterus. I asked for a strong birth control that I wouldn't have to remember. ( i have a lousy memory) he recommended the Depo Shot. I was talking with my mom about this, and she said she knows of 4 girls that have gotten pregnant while on it, although my doctor said it is as effective as getting my tubes tied, but I could have more children. So, Has anyone gotten the shot and been effective or ineffective? Also, any other suggestions for birth control would be great! Thanks!

I was on the shot for 4 years and NEVER had any side effects and never had a single scare (till I was in transition from the shot to the pill!). I loved the shot - I had one period about every 15 months and never had the hormonal surges, moodiness or weight-gain people complain about with both the shot & the pill.
I DO however recommend getting the 3-month shot (Depo-Porvera). My sis-in-law had the monthly one (Lunelle) and she said it was a pain in the butt ... literally (with both you get injected either in the hip or the upper arm - I preferred the shoulder personally!).
You will start with a shot during the first 72 hours of your first regular period and then they will give you a schedule to come back every 3 months for a "booster" shot.
Highly recommended !!!

Depo-Provera is a hormonal method of birth control where a woman receives a shot of Progestin every 12 weeks in order to prevent the release of an egg. Since you are asking if someone can get pregnant while using this type of birth control, keep in mind that abstinence is the only method of birth control that is 100% effective against pregnancy. With perfect use Depo-Provera is considered to be 99+% effective if used correctly and consistently, but only 97% effective when you consider the typical use of the average woman. So Depo-Provera can be very effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies, however, there is always that possibility that pregnancy might occur. You did not say what symptoms you are currently experiencing, but symptoms in early pregnancy can include nausea and vomiting, breast tenderness, constipation, spotting, frequent urination, fatigue, dizziness or fainting, heartburn and possible changes in mood. If you have any concerns that you may be pregnant, or are experiencing any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. If you are pregnant, the sooner you know the better so that you can have time to think about and plan what you would like to do (i.e., abortion, adoption or keep the baby). If you do plan on keeping the baby or giving the baby up for adoption, confirming your pregnancy early on is helpful because you will have more time to ensure that you get your needed prenatal care, as well as time to discuss with your doctor anything that needs to be discontinued for the well-being of the fetus (i.e., birth control or any other possible harmful medications, alcohol/drug use, cigarette smoking).

I've used the Depo for 3 years now and haven't gotten pregnant. It is very effective and easy to remember because you only get it every 12 weeks. It's been great for me. If you do decide to use it though there are some side effects like being a little more hungry and some people eventually get no period. Talk with the dr about those. Hope this helps.

I used to be on Depo... only had one injection though. I somehow got pregnant... I think that I got a faulty dose or something. I dunno. But I also lost the babies due to stress about 4 months into the pregnancy... yes I said babies. Having a set of multiples runs in my family. Anywayz... I would suggest getting on the patch or pill... not on the depo shot. Alot of women complain about weight gain... and on top of that... once you are on the depo and it is in your system... it could take years to become pregnant again (depending on how long you have been on the shot). It honestly causes a lot of problems in the long run. I've listed a site below that might help you with more questions about the depo shot and of trying to conceive later on down the line. I found the information there very useful. It's also a message board. There are stories from women who have been trying to conceive for quite a few years with no success because of the shot. I wish you luck!!

This is the first time i hear someone got pregnant while on the shot, usually it takes women about a year to get their first period after quitting the shot. I have always thought the pill is the best thing you can do.
