I think Dr.McCoy would make a great gay guy, and I also think that Marvel should give the Homosexuality issue more attention. The Beast is the perfect character to do it.

Recently Dr.McCoy made a multi media anncouncement that he was gay during the Shi'ar invasion that Cassandra Nova started, when confronted directly by Trish Tilby. Whether or not he was serious or just responding to Trish with an off color comment has yet to be determined.

Northstar is another gay Marvel character yes... however with TWO gay guys Marvel could actually address real time gay issues like marriage, equal rights, and so on.

Errrr.... nice idea, but wrong mutant.
Hank McCoy isn't a character that was just created for the X-Men movie, he's a well-established Marvel character- one of the original X-Men from the 1960's when the comic book was first published (and alas, while a refined and loquacious fellow, is quite straight)
Marvel has dealt a bit with homosexual characters and issues in it's recent titles. Northstar from Alpha Flight being the most prominent, and Hawkeye in the Ultimates universe. And I hear the new Batgirl is being portrayed as gay in her upcoming books- but that's DC.

what??? I am truly sorry but beast isn't gay just overly intelligent. And to prove this x-men #1 has beast cyc angel and iceman all drooling over a young jean grey. More the question of the androgenic Storm or is jean grey a sl*t. After all jean dated cyclops wolverine and a close tryst with prof X. Just because a male shows intelligence does not mean the danger room showers needs another bad plot twist. The gay issue was thrust upon a Alpha Flight character named quicksilver and the book never read so wannabe. A sales ploy at best. I have no prejudice against a persons lifestyle. But i would think it would make more since that beast chose celibacy. In a world of mutants he might more not wish to have blue fuzzy children. Turning beast gay would just seem a sell out and lose the purity of a thirty five year old icon of peace and intellect. I ask you if robin hasn't dropped the soap for batman. Why wouldn't beast just borrow a few of wolverines playboys. I mean where else would he get such hairy palms hehee. sorry guys northstar

The entire 'mutant' thing was developed so that Marvel comics could have a pseudo 'civil-rights' comic. Don't forget, it started back in the sixties! They had automatic publicity and sales took off at a skyrocket rate.
The concept was later co-opted by the homosexual community, to the extent that many people thought that all the mutants were homosexual, or were supposed to be a metaphor for them.
The homosexual community loved it, because then they could capitalize on this to demonize the rest of the world whenever they were criticized, and make it appear as thought the rest of the world was in the wrong, as though heterosexuals were evil and wanting to deprive the homosexuals of some supposed 'rights'.
It got so bad, when the recent movies were being made, that the director said to the producer, "You DO realize that being gay isn't a super power, don't you...?" However, with the media and politica clout that homosexuals have these days, it might as well be a super power. Practially no one dares disagree with homosexuals publicly these days, for fear that they will be made the target of a lot of hatred and be accused of being haters themselves and painted up as being evil. People who disagree with homosexuals are also unfairly characterized as being oppressive, like Magneto.
As far as Henry McCoy, he has always been heterosexual, and to suggest otherwise would be doing a disservice to the character, to the artist and writer that originated him, and to the legions of fans who like him just the way he is.
For goodness sake, he was once romantically involved with Dazzler, arguably one of the most beautiful and desirable women ever drawn in Marvel comics! (Beauty and the Beast) She was the one that the Beyonder wanted and was willing to share half his powers with!
No, I am afraid you are far wrong. Henry McCoy is solidly and permanently heterosexual.
Why not Thor...? Perhaps some capital could be made of the fact that his name is pronounced with a lisp, that he has never married his girlfriend in thousands of years (the lady Sif, pronounced Syph, as in syphilis) that he has such long golden hair and great muscles, and many homosexual men would swoon over his mighty hammer!
I'm kidding! It would be a total mistake to make any super hero homosexual. Don't do that to them. It is almost as bad as smearing the reputation of an actual person.

Hank's announcement was not "multimedia." It was said to Trish alone. In a later issue, he stated flatly to Scott that he wasn't actually gay.
Hear that? Beast said that he was joking, and that he was not actually gay. Also, this happened about three years ago. It's not even that recent, really. There are gay heroes, and that's fine. Beast isn't one of them, however.

nah, there are plenty of other characters that show this in comics. right now the major issue with beast is that his girl broke up with him because of his appearance (it's become more feline and she was afraid they'd accuse her of bestiality)
a short list of this is at wikipedia... here are a few of the more well known names:
Anole (x-men, marvel)
apollo (the authority, wildstorm)
midnighter (the authority, wildstorm)
hulkling (young avengers, marvel)
black cat (amazing spiderman, marvel)
batwoman (detective comics, DC)
sunfire (exiles, marvel)
knockout (superboy, DC)
mystique (x-men, marvel)
john constantine (he's bi, DC)
renee montoya (batman, DC)
pied piper (the flash, DC)
flatman (avengers, marvel)
mary jane watson (exiles, marvel)
inertia (marvel)
