Yes, there are places in the world where churches provide sanctuary.

I am Canadian and in my province there is a family in sanctuary in a church in a small community. They have been there for several months. The father was arrested a few months ago when he left the church for some reason and has been deported to Israel. Since then he has made his way to Mexico and is trying to get permission to come back into Canada. His wife and their five children are still in the church. She just had a new baby. Just a couple of days ago there was a ruling from the supreme court that they must leave the country. However, no one will try to remove them from the church. The family can still appeal the ruling. They have a great deal of support in the community.

actually, all catholic churches *should* be places where u can claim sanctuary..... if u watch romeo+juliet, romeo runs into the church at the end (where juliet is resting), and they can't come in and get him because of sanctuary. they have to wait until he comes out type of thing.


hmm...these days.. i don't know if people really follow that anymore. if u read the da vinci code people come into the church and kill in there. bleh.
