Hi. My beautiful baby boy is black. I am a white male and my wife is actually a red headed Irish gal.

Well you can imagine my surprise! My wife says that people have 'recessive genes' that can pop up after being dormant for several generations. So two blondes can have a baby with dark hair and so forth.

I feel so dumb!!! Even Jerome our lawnboy says he has heard of this in his middle school science classes.

Someone please explain this to me in plain English!!!

Seems to me that Jerome is mowing more than the lawn.

Do you remember a TV star named Dinah Shore? Most people don't (you have to be at least 35 - maybe older). Well, there's this story that circulated about her giving birth to a black baby as well, and it was due to the "recessive gene" theory.

Personally, I don't believe it, but the theory goes that a person can carry a "dormant" gene for such things as hair, eye & skin color, and once every dozen gernations or so, it become "active" and a baby is born with some sort of aboration that is not typical to either parent or general extended family (grandparents, cousins, etc).

My advice to you, my friend is to go get some genetic testing done. Sure it will PISS your wife off to no end, but until you have a confirmed answer on paternity, I would continue to push the issue.

My son came out black? Is this due to 'recessive genes'?

RACE MIXING AND THE “THROWBACK” GENE

In a practical example, if a pure Black breeds with a pure White, the offspring might emerges with a new "mutant" recessive allele (a), being heterozygous (i.e., along with a more dominant one, represented by "Ab").

If that mixed race individual then marries back into the White genotype pool, statistically, only half that person’s progeny will carry (a), and only half of the next generation.

A mutant allele may simply disappear or it may propagate out through many generations before it reappears through mixing with another individual who also carries that same allele. Only then will the phenotype appear – this is known popularly known as the “throwback gene.”

It may take many generations before a particular combination of alleles (mutant or otherwise) appears. Such a “throwback” will increase the (aa) population locally, and even more when (aa) males start mating with (aa) females, making it possible for an (aa) type to expand in numbers.

Here is an example of a black child being born from white parents for those of you that don't believe it can happen

It's due to recessive genes. Your son's father must have some recessive genes that combined with your own recessive genes to allow him to be blonde. Your son's father isn't blonde himself because the recessive genes are not expressed due to dominant genes for darker coloring.

Heard abt recessive genes. Occurs if and only one of d parents has 'blk' genes even if it 1%. Again, u may wanna check ur dokta, so he can fill u in. Probably ur baby has some hypodermal disease, or sth. well, good. I believe jerome did a lot more dan mowing, and u did alot of askin

I have heard some kind of tale about this and genes from way back, but dont know if its true one or an old excuse, you should have a test to confirm if baby is yours, to put your mind at rest one way or another. Does anyone know of any black family blood person on your wifes side. It is very very rare if at all possible i would say.

Get a DNA test. There are recessive genes but is anyone in your wives immediate line black? If not there is no recessive gene. She probably cheated on you.

Well, yes, but how far back are you talking here? I'd be a bit suspicious if no one on either side knows of any black relatives.

i dont think that could happen if both of you are white. unless someone in ya'll family what actually black. but even then i still dont think that could happen. the only way that, that could happend is if your wife cheated on you with a black man.
