Sorry to answer a question with another question - but isn't it more to do with the number of new houses being built,

The water supplies are limited anyway but if more people are using them then we are going to get through more of it.

That and the fact that the water companies waste more of it than ever before through failing to repair leaks.

But then they can't get to mend the leaks coz mummy is always taking the kids to school and blocking up the roads.

Sea water is not drinkable. It contains sveral hundred times the amount of salts (not table salt, a whole host of minerals containing salt) that the human body can tolerate.

Droughts occur when there is not an adequate rainfall to supply enough water for normal daily activities. Arid areas are especially susceptible to drought.

To purify sea water would take a lot of work. There really isnt an easy way to do it. The only way is to distill it. The problem with this is that it takes a long time to distill large amounts of water, and all the residue salts that will remain afterwards. Then it needs to be transportred inland hundred of miles. It isnt very efficient, it is expensive, and there are many better alternatives.

Most people are just too afraid to do for themselves, but I have hope this will change soon. One can always hope.

Put whatever water you wish to purify for consumption in a container, put your hands on the opposite sides of the container and pray while visualizing the energy going from your right to your left hand. Bingo! Drinking water. The more you pray, the more it purifies, and after practice you won't need to pray just visualize while holding the container.

For silty water just put it through a filter, the water will still be drinkable, although not as tasty.

No, it's not really a dumb idea to somehow purify sea or ocean water. The problem is the cost. The process of desalinization, as it's called, is complicated and costly. Therefore, most countries that desperately need water can't afford the process to create the water they need to grow crops.

lots of water that is not distributed evenly. Water cant get inland from the ocean without rain. If you want man to purify sea water and bring it inland, thats a lot of enrgy to spend. Better let nature do that part with rain.

Aside from that, people do funnel fresh water from rivers and sometimes you get droughts because even rivers dry up.

If you take the sea water away wouldn't the fish get more thirsty?
Besides big plants to take in water and purifying it along with pipes etc. would take away the sceneray a tad.

Water desalinization (getting the salt out) is a GREAT idea. Unfortunately, it's also a very expensive idea. California was talking about building 5 de-sal plants along the cost in the late '90's, but they balked after they found out it would cost in excess of $15 billion.

There are drought because of Global Warming. the sun is evaporating most of the water. and it hardly rains in some countries.

Sea water is full of salt.

De-salination plants would have to be built to take the salt out of the water and to clean it.

Apparently de-salination plants cost an absolutre fortune to build but I do think it would be worth it.
