Basically, the question is asking how these characters deal with being human. How do they react to the universal experiences and problems that are part of being human?
If you could list the books you're writing about, people could probably give you a more specific answer and maybe some ideas of where to begin.

usually main characters are considered "heroes" or "heroines"..therefore, somewhat perfect, virtuous, in an imperfect world. what u want to do is figure out what weaknesses and strength these characters have that You can relate to, as a human being. for example, there can be times where the main character is confused, or is torn between family and duty, etc etc..those are things u can understand, as another human. :) good luck! compare and contrast~

you need to read the 4 books that you were asked to and then write about the protagonist's basic human condition ( the environment in which they lived and their life surrounding the environment )described in the novels/books.
Read the 4th book and get going with your essays

The essay is asking what kind of people were the main characters. their personalities, their morals, what was their world like, culture or society, and the circumstances in which they find themselves.
