I'm just wondering what some peoples' reasons are, especially the non-religious ones.

I think people use sex to play games in relationships and waiting for marriage is admirable not only because it shows respect for your own body but also because you have respect for the relationship you have built with your fiance... you can build a much stronger relationship/ foundation if you obstain from sex until you are ready to make a life-long commitment... it also makes marriage that much more sacred, marriage has been so trivialized over the years because we have set morals aside... maybe the reason the divorce rate is so high

I am not sure what the reason for that is. I have already lost mine and even if someone decides to save themselves odds are high the person they marry will not be a virgin. I think people should just do what they feel comfortable doing and if that means saving yourself until marriage then do so.

If you wait till after marriage then you will be sure that the man you marry will be because he loves you for who you are, you will know each other better and your relationship will be better of for it.
Plus if you don't wait you may end up used, finding the totally wrong man which may end up in divorce, or in some cases pregnant.
This is some of the religious ones other than it is wrong and those who do are refered to as "whoremongers" in the bible.

Most ppl think if u stay a virgin until marriage it shows respect 2 ur husband and ur family. It makes ppl think dat u save da fun for a person u really want 2 spend ur life wit. N if ur not then it shows dat u been sleeping wit alot of man just 2 find one. Which means they would only be in love wit u only for da sex!!!!!!!!!! I ur not a virgin until marriage dont tell ur husband!!!!!

Here's my take on this:
Evolution-wise, it was probably a way to keep women from having kids without having a husband to help support them. One parent families struggle a lot more than 2 parent families.
Later, the people who invented religion incorporated the idea as a command from their god, saying that it's a sin to have sex before marriage.

A whole list of reasons!!! One, with all of the STD's floating around there, you don't want to live the rest of your life with something like that. Two the possibility of pregnancy. Don't have sex with someone that you could not see yourself having a child with. Three- if you wait it makes the marraige seem so much more fullfilling. Trust me sex isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's not like the movies where it's all great and clean!!

Lots of people say it helps to create a more intimate relationship. If both spouses are chaste until marriage, the possibility if drama from past relationships is at a minimum. Plus, most men do not want to marry a "slut". They want to know as little as possible about their partner's sexual past, unless it is a matter of life and death, such as STD's and HIV.

That's a personal decision, not necessarily related to religion. It could be that the woman has decided not to take chances with the myriad of sexually transmitted diseases out there, plus the chance of being impregnated. Condoms DO break, and they DO leak, so the only safe sex is abstinence.

i'm no way by far a virgin, but i was raised to be a christian and i was taught that you should save yourself for the person you marry cuz sex is meant just for married people and it is sacred and holy and something special that only the people who truly love each other and have given each other vows that they will always love each other should be able to do, i believe that you should have sex if you know in your heart that you truly love that person that your with, i know i love my bf and that he loves me and he is not just looking for a piece of *** or anything, we know that we will be together forever, he is the first man that i've ever had sex with too by the way

Humm..well i won't say it's important..but i think (my poinion) it's best to stay a vergin till marriage because for me it shows how much the guy im presently with loves me. He isn't intersted in my body, but im my heart and soul. And that's pretty much it lol
