FAT. I have heard a lot of white people say that black women are fat. I have even seen it on yahoo answers in several questions.

First of all, all people are different. Race and nationality IS a lot more then skin color and cultural behavior. Our bodies are genetically different. Most, not all black women have larger body frames and genetically carry weight in the buttocks, and breast. WE ARE NOT FAT!! We carry our weight differently. And even if we are weighing more then a white person we do have weight distributed differently. If our difference were only in skin color then why are our hair types different, or our facial features different, etc. Stop calling us fat because our bodies aren't the same as yours. We are still beautiful even with our differences.

Okay for the record I am not being a reverse bigot. Maybe I should have put "a lot of white people think black women are fat" I didn't say all white people felt this way.

Also, some of you are not getting the point I was trying to make. WE ARE NOT THE SAME!!! I recently had done a lung capacity test because I'm trying to quit somking. The nurse put my race down and I asked why is that important. She (a white woman) even said that our nationalities make our bodies have different genetic makeups that would give false reading if race not taken into consideration. and I also saw the same study some of you posted about african american having heavier bone density.

Just like in many of your answers, alot of you stated fat is fat and you need to lose weight but that's like telling a black woman your lips are to big get them reduced or your hair is too kinky get it relaxed. Why should we try and alter our gentic makeup in order to be seen as attractive in society. I'm cute now!

Also in posting this question i'm not trying to start a big fuss or cause drama. Maybe if we stop being scared to discuss our differences then we could learn how to accept them. Maybe we should just get some of this stuff off our chest and just speak frankly about the things that we wonder about and things we are curious to know instead of just making assumptions. I'm not naive people. I expected to have hateful answers and disagreements. But isn't that why we are all here on yahoo answers. To get our questions answered, voice our opinions, and become more knowledgeable. just because i ask a a question related to race it doesn't mean I'm stupid and don't expect consequences or rude remarks. I know I will get rudeness but I also may get enlightened by hereing what people have to say outside of my immediate family and friends. I choose to do it this way because people from all walks of life are here. knowledge is power and i choose to empowered with as much knowledge as possible.

GUMMY BEAR D....

Thank you for the compliment. but in answer to your question. It's not that black women can't grow hair, LOL. black women wear weaves for a variety of reasons. First our hair does grow slower. We don't have a lot of natural oil in our hair that's why we add oils to it and don't have to wash it as often as other races. And because of the less oil thing our hair is prone to more breakage. Especially if it is chemically treated. So it grows slower and hasmore breakage which is why you see a lot of us with short hair if we don't wear alot of weave. The weave thing could be because we hide the damage caused to our hair with chemicals, we try and fit into mainstream society, or some of us just geniunly like the idea of longer straighter hair. I never wear weave, but my sister does ans he tells me that in addtion to her relaxer, the weave makes her hair easier to manage. It takes less time to in the mornings to put long straight hair in a ponytail then short kinky

Ignorance and prejudice. Besides, there are alot of slim and trim black women around too. Genetics are everything. When I was in the marines I found black males can't swim worth a damn. Not all of course but most would flail around and sink like rockfish. A study was done and it was stated that black males/females have a denser bone structure than other races. Yeah...true stuff. How many American Indians had facial hair? I also read that genetically the Native American Indian didn't grow facial hair because it was a genetic thing and facial hair was scarce if not non-existant. American Indians also had jet black hair. How many Native Americans or blacks for that matter have brilliant blonde hair. none...unless they either dye it or have a mixed racial background. So....forget it my dear. People are ignorant for the most part and trying to educate them is sometimes an excercise in futility. Hey...for what it's worth...i think there are lenty of black women who just ooze sexiness. "Fat" or not.

Is this a statement or a question?

There are a lot of black women that are overweight and just as many white women too.

Some black women have features that are relatively larger than white women.

There is a stereo type throughout history as the black woman being a mammy.

Fat is not a bad word.

It's all in your mind.

There are plenty of FAT fine black women too.

If I had a FAT wallet, would that be bad?

I am a white woman, and I have never thought of black women as fat. It is hard for me to know for sure, maybe this is an American thing, I am Canadian, I don't think we pay as much attention to black and white. I don't anyways. Why someone would post a question stating why are all black women fat? completely stymies me, that you have heard people say such a thing out loud is astonishing.

Please don't assume you know what I am thinking, because I am white. Perhaps ignorance is louder than tolerance, but that doesn't mean that tolerance does not exist.

The way I see it, there are white women who are "fat" to, so no-one should put anyone down. I am a white girl with what I have been told is a "black girl build" please, I mean no offense by this. I simply feel that God proportioned me the way he wanted me to be, and I am perfectly happy with that.
I have seen women of all races and builds, and they have their own beauty in different ways. What a lot of people don't realize is, you can take a heavy set, homely person, and with a sunny attitude they will be the most beautiful person you could meet. On the other hand you can take a physically thin, attractive female, and she can have a nasty attitude, and this will make her unnattractive.

I've never thought of it that way. I know and work with many black ladies, and most have better bodies than me!

I happen to think most Asians tend to be skinny, black gals have the nicest shape, and latinas the best attitudes (until they get mad!)

=)

I also envy my middle-eastern boss' pretty eyes and long lashes and my friend (Hawaiian - Phillipina blend).

I think it depends on the view of the person - I guess if you have a general bad attitude or dislike yourself, you tend to look at everyone around you differently. And if who you're looking at looks VERY different from yourself, you tend to think they look wrong - so curvy becomes fat, and strong attitude becomes b**chy.

I don't think that way. Black, white, green or blue its all really the same to me - personality means a whole lot more.

Sorry you've had that experience. I wish people weren't that way.

Just because some stupid people who happened to be white called black women fat, does not mean that all white people think black women are fat. I don't. By saying that you are just as guilty of making an racial generalization as those people.

I think you are absolutely right! I am white and have been told on many occasions that I am built like a black woman... i have a small waist but a big butt and big boobs.... that's just how i am built. My weight is fine, but I've been referred to as "ghetto" or "bootylicious". I love my body and am proud of the way I am shaped. But I understand why you would be upset. There is definitely a lot of stereotyping going on between the different races.

God made you beautiful!

I was reading through some of these answers... and then I simply got bored. The truth is, I just don't care what other women look like. I don't look at women of any race and think about their body type. I'm white, I have a fantastic body that I work my *** off for, and that is my sole concern.
