Iraq was going to attack us with nuclear weapons. Saddam was behind 9/11. War = Peace. We are in Iraq to fight for democracy. We will be welcomed as liberators. We are winning the war. How many lies does it take for people to wake up?

If we didn't have all the fanatic flag wavers unquestioningly supporting our President & government leaders at the expense of true American values (for example the Constitution and global treaties on human rights and the rules of war) couldn't we look objectively at what is going on in the world and realize that our leaders are full of sh*t? That we are the aggressers. That if Iraq didn't have one of the largest supplies of oil we wouldn't be there. If the ultra-nationalists didn't view world politics as a frigin' sports match where they were cheering their side regardless of objective fact, where the only way to judge whether an action was justifiable or not was to look at who was doing it rather than what was done, couldn't we have avoided this mess?

Short Answer - Yes.

It's not just Americans though, the same techniques work in other countries too, although some peoples are more susceptible to the lies and propaganda than others.

Take heart though - even Americans are finally starting to wake up. Look at all of the people on this site who despise the current administration. Think of how many Bush bumper stickers you DON'T see any more. Imagine all of those embarrassed suburban Republicans scraping away the incriminating, stubborn stickers in the middle of the night and hoping that the neighbors won't see...

You really CAN'T fool all of the people all of the time, and I believe "George's Most Excellent Adventure In Iraq" will cost the Republicans for YEARS to come. The only sad part is - the DEMOCRATS will be in power, and that's not much of an improvement to the few of us who still cherish their liberty.

Whatever. Just lik you say there are people unquestioningly supporting the President, there are people like you who unquestioningly support the opposition of that and don't open your eyes to what is really going on. Be like me and others who don't support unquestioningly, we examine facts and then make decisions.

Everything is about business (oil, weapons, ...). Freedom, democracy are justifications.
A president is not the country.
