The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you throw out your walker as they are dangerous and have no benefit to babies. I suggest sticking your baby in a sling or other carrier and going about your day- my son loves watching me do dishes, go for walks, etc. just by hanging out on me.

If you need some "out of arms" time, getting a johnny jump up around 6 months or whenever they have good back support and can sit up on their own can be good. An excersaucer as well can be good at occupying a baby when they have good trunk control.

See the article I listed as a source for more information about the dangers of walkers.

I don't understand how a walker is any different than letting him crawl around. Of course, I never used a walker ... so maybe I don't understand the difference. I mean, I figured that even in a walker he could go where ever he wanted when you weren't watching. My daughter was crawling at 6 months and walking at almost 10 months. Basically, I made my house as baby safe as possible and let her be. Like I let my daughter crawl around the pantry (I have a walk in pantry) while I cooked. I just emptied all the bottom shelves and put only 'safe' things there for her to pull out and play with. You'll have to improvise. Don't take a walker back out. That is not a solution. What are you going to do when he learns to actually walk? He's going to be able to get into things then too. You're just delaying the inevitable.

The reason they were banned in some places is because a few people with no common sense decided to use them around stairs! For God's sake, what is wrong with people? Using a walker is just fine. Depending on the type you have I would probably wait until the baby is about 5 1/2 to 6 months. Some of them you can put them in at about 4 months, but some are just too big for that. Just make sure you use it in a safe place......away from stairs.

By the way you express yourself about the baby you should not have to deal with one at all.

People do not stick babies into baby walkers, you can place them there, certainly not stick them, that sounds as if you think the baby is some kind of unwanted load you need to get off your back.

Lazy and cheap, that is how you sound, if you can't deal with a baby, give it up for adoption.

I started my son at 5 months although I had to put a small pillow in front of his chest so he could be more stable. He is now almost 7 months and really loving it. He can get around the house some in it. I have heard that they are unsafe but if you watch the baby it should be fine.

i believe walkers are no longer recommended due to the danger posed -- tripping and falling. the substitute these days are stationary playstations that don't move, typically called exersaucers. depending on the make and model, babies as young as 4-5 months can start using them. my daughter started using one at 5 months; we have the baby einstein exersaucer. see indications and/or instructions that come with different models.

good luck!

When My son could hold himself up on his own I tried out my friend's Jumperoo. He loved it so we bought on for him. I liked that option much better than the walker since he couldn't get into any trouble that way. Once he could cruise on his own - it was bye bye jumperoo.
