New Colman furance and new instant hot water heater, also converted propane cloths dryer and cooking range to electric.

It should burn clean. If you have soot you should check if the ventilation is blocked somehow.

If its a central unit discharging soot then you have a cracked heat exchanger. Do not use it. CO will kill you. Anytime there is incomplete combustion, soot, you have CO ( carbon Monoxide ).
Contact the installer & have it repaired. Also if its new it should not be sooting up. Something was installe dimproperly. It most likely is the unit is set to burn Natural Gas.

One likely explanation is that propane gas is accumulating before igniting. GET IT CHECKED IMMEDIATELY!!! You could take a long, fast ride that will not be pleasant.

How about an exhaust filter? I use a hepa filter and get no soot at all.

sounds to me you need to clean the burners or check to see if gas pressure is too high or low ... at the unit ... dont know how to spell orphisis but check to see if they need to be cleaned too.. they should be right in front ofthe burners.... and if you converted from natrual gas...they get a diff size orphis and diff gas pressure .. good luck

turn it off NOW get a tech out flame is maladjusted or vent is blocked THIS CAN AND WILL KILL YOU ( CO2 no warning you just don't wake up )
