I don't know if it's one country in particular, but I think the countries who have oil are definately key countries to the west. Mind you, Kuwait's been pretty quiet for awhile.
I think Saudi is a big key country to the west, obviously due to oil, and the royal family ties to American business. As well, the Bin Laden family does a lot of business in the States, and they are from Saudi. There are a lot of very, VERY rich people in Saudi that rich Americans love to do business with.
I think it depends on what you're interested in. Like certain countries would be key spots for oil, others construction, etc. Somewhat like Europe I guess.
