The living room is where all of his toys are but when I bring him to play he starts crying. His room doesn't have as many toys but he would rather play in there and the bathroom, which really has no toys.. Any suggestions?

Do you stay and play with him in the living room? If not, he may associate the room with being "ignored". Or he may be bored with the toys in there. Babies always love to play in the bathroom... it's a common fascination.
And ditto to the Baby Einstein videos!!! They are awesome and will keep a child entertained for many months!

Most parents would just about kill to have their children play in their rooms. I say just let him play in there move more of his toys in there . Or is his room too small for that? Is it inconvenient for you if he plays in his room? Does it cause any major problems for you? It would probably help to keep your house tidy to have his toys in one central area anyways so why not in his room?I do however agree with the fact that he may just want you to be there with him playing as well as the concept of getting down to his level and seeing things from his perspective. Things do look alot bigger and more intimidating from his size.At the age of six months they still need that comfort of small spaces that remind them of the womb. They feel safer. Best of everything and remember that with every child it is different for no two children are the same.Hug him and kiss him and hold him close while you spend time together in the living room, reassure him often that you love him and are there if you really have to have him play in there.

my baby cousin used to have the same problem with is playroom. we found out he just didn't like being alone. if you go and sit with him while he plays, or stay in a room close by, he will probably feel more comfortable. also, put some noise in the room. get a CD player and put some baby-friendly music on for him, or put on barney on a television. children, when they are younger, are very sensitive. being left alone for even a moment could set them off! build him a fort or a little club house. fill it with a few of his toys, stuffed animals, etc. eat lunch with him in his fort. that always worked with my son. try to leave the toys in the living room the way he left them (unless, of course, they are taking over the room!) from my experience, children like to find their toys right where they left them, it makes them feel like it is their room. good luck!!

Do you set him down with the toys and let him play by himself? Maybe he wants to play with you more and does that in the other rooms

Could it be that he is very overwelmed by the amount of toys in there? Or maybe when you two are in there you are a bit distracted from him by other things so he now likes the rooms where you are centered on him.

Overly stimulated. 6 month olds need very little to entertain them and they do get overly stimulated quite easily. De-cluter the living room, if there is a tv, make sure it's off. Give the room a chilled out vibe, make it cozy and not full of new experiences he will get used to it and find it comforting.

Take some of the things from the bathroom into the livingroom to see if that makes a difference.
Also, do you have a lead paint or a mold problem... maybe he just feels sicker in that room?

He has room-a-phobia. Just bring his toys to him. Or you can leave him in the living room until he is no longer scared, or is traumatized for life.

maybe the room is too big or too dark.Babies are very sensitive. They like beautiful things just the way they are.Let the sunlight in and lay down with him and look around from his level.it may show you what he see's.Watch him close to see if you can detect his change of behavior.
