most turbos have a lag when first accelerating, unless you have twin turbos. (very expensive). A supercharger is a lot better, that there is no lag and the power keeps increasing as you accelerate. It requires a belt so your idle and slow and go traffic gas milage will decrease a little, but on the highway it will increase, Turbo gas milage will decrease because of the exhaust back pressure.

Whichever way you go, you have to get a new ECM to run the engine, more fuel to the engine or it will run lean, and expect to be making internal upgrades such as head gaskets and better engine components that can withstand the punishment.

Some detroit diesels used both a centrifugal supercharger and turbocharging. Fun fact.

Nice thing about turbos though they require less energy to run due to being beltless.

Turbo.

Superchargers use your engines crank to force more air into your engine. Whereas turbos use your exhaust to turn a turbine and force more air into your engine. Though you have turbo lag, a turbo car will beat a supercharged car on the same platform any day.

It depends on how you define "best." Often which one is easiest and cheapest to install will depend on your car. Turbos frequently make the highest total power levels, but on very high powered installations, superchargers often give more predictable power delivery.
