Ceres.
... a dwarf planet, basically just a big asteroid that's big and round enough to meet the criteria.

The main feature between Mars and Jupiter is the asteroid belt. The largest single asteroid, Ceres, contains about a third of the belt's total mass, but is still much smaller than Earth's moon. The new draft definition of planet put forward by the IAU (International Astronomical Union) would include Ceres because it is massive enough for gravity to pull it into a spheroidal shape. The new definition may include three other asteroids: Vesta, Pallas, and Hygiea. Of note, Ceres, Pallas, Juno, and Vesta, the first four asteroids discovered, were all initially called planets until it was discovered that many other objects occupied similar orbits.

There are lots of small planets (asteroids) between Mars and Jupiter. It is hypothesized that it's the debris of a planet that exploded.

You may be thinking of Ceres, which when it was discovered was considered a planet. Now it's considered an asteroid, but that may change. Some tech group is supposed to vote on the definition of a planet sometime this month.

There is no planet between Mars and Jupiter. There is however an asteroid belt. BTW Ceres is considered an asteroid, not a planet.

It's not a real planet, but rather a large asteroid belt. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt there and like a planet, is spherical in shape.
