Let's see:
(1) He can hit or bunt the ball into fair territory but not out of the play area -- that would be a home run. If the ball ends up in fair territory and stays in fair territory, the batter would have to make it to first base before the ball is caught the first baseman, so it also counts if the first baseman doesn't catch the ball on the throw for whatever reason.
(2) He can get a walk. The pitcher would have to throw four balls before he threw three strikes in order for the batter to walk.
(3) He can also get a walk if the pitcher throws a pitch and it hits the batter.
(4) If the umpire at home plate calls a "balk," meaning the pitcher tried to throw one of the base runners out but didn't step off the rubber or was too far into his wind-up when he threw, the batter gets a walk to first base.
(5) If the umpire calls "Strike Three" but the catcher drops the ball, the batter can run to first base but he has to get there before the ball is caught by the first baseman -- just like hitting into fair territory.

A base hit, walk, hit by pitch, a strikeout meaning that if the batter swings and misses and the ball gets away from the catcher, the batter can run down to first base.

Hitting the ball into territory, getting four bad balls pitched to the batter (the batter CANNOT swing at these or they're considered strikes), if the batter is hit by the ball, and if the catcher drops the third strike.

There are many ways (not infinite) to get to first base in a game of baseball. Most often, the batter will run there. Sometimes they will skip or walk. When they get very excited, they might stare out to left field and kind of jump sideways for a while with their hands in the air.
One time a saw a rabbit dig a hole and tunnel his way to first. Rascally rabbit.
