Everyone knows that hedgehogs are splattered all over our roads.
It's not exactly a good example to set is it.

kids don't know that lots of hedgehogs get killed on roads and when kids are taught road safety they are not taught to walk into the middle of the road like real hedgehogs and get killed, they are taught to stop, look, listen, like in the advert. I guess cartoon animals are just easier for kids to identify with as a lot of kids cartoons have animals because it makes them more interesting to watch.

Because Hedgehogs are not part of the actors union and they have less rights. Thats why they get paid less.

Its cheaper for the film maker to do that.

In fact George Lucas considered making Star Wars using hedgehog actors instead of humans, until he realised that Chewbacca looked too similar and not "alien" enough.

I know this is true because I am from the UK.

I wondered that, too, about the yokel hedgehogs in the (radio) Specsavers adverts. It's anthropomorhism gone mad! Mind you, Tufty the Squirrel wasn't any better. They tend to get pancaked as well. I suppose it will be Frankie the Pheasant next.

ya, but don't you think if hedgehogs looked both ways they'd have a lower mortality rate? either that or some people who cross the road have the intelligence of a hedgehog crossing the road...so therefore the analogy is suitable.

Hedgehogs are cute and not at all harmful. They are something that people like and would not want to run over.

I think it's because we feel bad about flattened hedgehogs and so they want us to feel bad about possibly flattening humans too.

The way some people drive I don't think they have any feelings whatsoever.
