I am trying to quite smoking and finding it very hard. I am told that smoking is the hardest addiction to over come. I'm woundering why there is no support groups for this?

There are support groups for those seeking to stop smoking. Go to www.smokeassist.com on the web and you should find some helpful links.

Because there's drugs that places nicotine in our bodies to help us smokers quit our nicotine inhaling habit. (*rolls eyes at the idiocy of the patch, the gum, and the inhaler*)

In all seriousness, because tobacco is less immediately-self-destructive than alcohol or drugs, I suppose they figure that, given enough time, we'll get sick of it, and quit on our own. Or maybe watch a few non-smoking commercials that warn us how dangerous it is to smoke (knowing full well that those commercials *cause* us smokers to light up again), or those commercials that show us how disgusting cigarettes are (making us light up again, and feeling incredibly guilty about it). Or maybe actually heeding those commercials that tell us to do something productive with our time, like playing basketball (which, they fail to realise, that after the game, we're going to light up again).

It is in their best interests to keep us addicted as long as possible, while never providing a good enough answer to solving the problem. I know a lot of us, the only way we could quit, is if it was made illegal, and we were forced to quit, as it was no longer available in stores. Or if it was stopped being produced altogether.

Pft, a shoutout to all the richest people in the world: Buy out the tobacco farms, and have them grow food crops instead. With all that land dedicated to food, prices will drop, and people could get more food, for less.

Spend time in prayer, fasting, and in a calm, yet interesting environment. Every time I've 'stopped', that worked for me. (although I must admit, I've gone back to smoking as soon as stress hits me).

It sounds like she has a personality that is very prone to addiction. She sounds like she may have other issues as well, which might benefit from professional help. You can recover from addictions, but they don't really go away, in the sense that you cannot resume use of a substance to which you've previously been addicted without running the very real risk of falling into addiction again. Thus, alcoholics (for example) remain alcoholic for life, even though they may recover from their alcoholism by abstaining permanently from alcohol. A recovered addict is, for all practical purposes, the same as anyone else, except that he can never touch the substance to which he was previously addicted without the risk of a major relapse.

Good Point..

What about a group for buying useless consumer products on TV

or

For always dating the wrong men..

or

For answering questions for worthless points..knowing you have way more important and productive things to do.

I dunno... there are many things I think should warrant support groups and there are none. Perhaps there are some we are not aware of... but I don't know of any honestly. There was a judgment just yesterday against the "big tobacco companies" that is requiring them to pay several million dollars to help smokers who want to quit. Check it out, perhaps that would offer you some assistance.

There are a lot of groups for this purpose (government or private NGO's). You can even try asking a government hospital and they will help you.

There are numerous people who would laugh at the prospect of changing their destinies. This is due to the fact that it believes that no one gets more that what is written in his destiny.
