Failure to appear means just what it says, not showing up at the court at the specified time and place.

Dismissal means the case is over, and the party who didn't show up loses. Sanctions are penalties (fines) imposed by the judge for wasting the court's time. Sanctions are usually against the attorney, but can be charged against the party directly in some situations.

So, it's basically a warning saying that failing to show up could result in bad things happening.

You will get a judgment against you, garnish your wages or attach your assets. Judge can issue a warrant for your arrest in some states.
